Consigli Construction Company Headquarters
Location: Concord, MA
Client: Consigli Construction Company
Owner: Consigli Construction Company
Project Description: As the structural engineer of record, Structures North performed all structural design and detailing of Consigli Construction's new 31,200 square-foot office building, including the building and the adjacent site retaining walls. Formerly the St. Mary's Grammar School, Structures North helped Consigli transform the 100 year old structure into a modern headquarters while maintaining much of the original character of the wood-framed and masonry building.
Referred to as the "granite building", the granite blocks from the former school were dismantled and reconstructed, replicating the school's footprint at the new site. The granite blocks were tied to a reinforced concrete masonry unit (CMU) backup using stainless steel ties. In order to maintain its original character, our design permitted Consigli to reinforce and re-use the roof trusses of the former school building, and frame the second floor of the "granite building" with reclaimed wood from other historic buildings. The addition at the rear of the building consisted of modern construction and doubled the square footage of the original footprint. The first floor of both sections and the second floor of the addition were constructed of composite concrete slab on metal deck.
