Featured Case Study:
DeWolf Warehouse, Thames Street Landing
Location: Bristol, RI
Client: Newport Collaborative Architects
Owner: Miles Avenue Property Development Company, LLC

Project Description: The Dewolf Warehouse was a dockside storage facility constructed of local stone and timber ca. 1805, and expanded over subsequent years. Impacted by a ferry that washed onto the wharf during the hurricane of 1938, the structure eventually fell into disuse, abandonment and disrepair. The renovation project included stabilization of the extensively damaged stone masonry in its impacted form (still retaining the shape of the ferry hull for historical reasons), underpinning of foundations, strengthening of floors, and replacement of damaged tree-trunk posts with matching new ones. The structure was brought into compliance with modern code requirements for wind load by the installation of a lateral bracing system that had to be hidden, due to the planned end use as restaurant and function facility.
